LA CENTER, KY (KFVS) - It's August, so must of us are focused on the heat, but in western Kentucky huge debris piles remind residents of January's ice storm everyday.

Pick up of all the debris just came to a close at the end of June, and now they are trying to dispose of the all the trees and tree branches as quickly and as enviromentally friendly as possible.

Some debris sites are burning the debris, others like the one in La Center are grinding the debris and taking it to paper mills.

Engineering Branch Manager Mike Mcgregor tells Heartland News if all goes as plan, the 4.3 million cubic yards of debris in western Kentucky will be disposed of by late November.
