STE. GENEVIEVE, CO, Mo (KFVS) New details on that suspicious death in Ste. Genevieve County.

Investigators said the victim, 51-year-old Daniel Gordon Dotson was from Jefferson County.

They also said Dotson suffered some injuries but they didn't say what kind of injuries or where they were.

Autopsy results will help pinpoint a cause of death and those are expected as early as Friday.

In the meantime, the man who found Dotson's body is confident police will figure out what went wrong.

Gene Bieser came across Dotson's body as he lay in the back of a pickup truck. Dotson's truck now sits in the back of an impound lot, but Bieser says he won't soon forget the gruesome sight.

"He was just laying there across the tailgate, arms just hanging down on his stomach, and I could see some blood on him. I figured he was dead, he was not moving or anything," Bieser said.

It's a sight one woman says her teenage daughter narrowly missed seeing as she passed by on the school bus, Thursday morning.

"They would have shut the road down if the bus driver had been notified in time, but they had a sheet over it," Cheryll Huber explained.

Some crime scene tape can still be seen, left behind by investigators, at the corner of Charter Church Road and Bieser Lane.

Investigators said they are not sure why Dotson ended up in the area, but they are hoping neighbors can help answer some questions.

"Not a lot of high traffic volume goes through there," Major Jason Schott with the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office said.

He also said investigators have a person of interest, but a witness could go a long way in helping them figure out exactly what happened here.

"I thought I had seen the truck the night before," Bieser said, adding he would like to know how Dotson ended up right outside his property.

Investigators are working with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
