LA CENTER, KY (KFVS) - A man who rear-ended a Ballard County preschool bus Thursday was intoxicated, according to deputy Ronnie Harvell.
Harvell said a vehicle driven by Ricky Jarvis, 56, of La Center, hit the bus from behind just before noon. Jarvis was on his way home from the post office at the time of the accident. The driver and 12 children were on the bus; no one was hurt.
Jarvis was taken to the Ballard County Jail in Wickliffe. He faces charges of first-degree DUI with aggravated circumstances, driving on a DUI-suspended license, 13 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and driving with an open container of alcohol, Harvell said.
The accident happened at the intersection of Pine Street & U.S. 60 while the bus was stopped at a traffic light, said Ballard County Schools PR Director Julie Thomas. The driver had just begun taking the students home after morning classes.
Another bus was sent to the scene to resume the normal route.
The bus was not damaged other than some paint transfer on the rear bumper from the other vehicle, said transportation director Kerry Fulcher.
