WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - West Frankfort police Chief Jeff Tharp returned to Franklin County from Colorado.  Tharp got back early Saturday morning after gathering evidence in connection to a double homicide that rocked the West Frankfort community last Monday.

Chief Tharp headed Colorado soon after area authorities arrested Michael Schallert and Afton Ferris.  Both are charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Kandis Majors and Terri Seibeck.

Police found the women's bodies more than a week ago in this West Frankfort home.  At the time investigators believed Schallert and Ferris stole one of the victim's cars a tan 2003 Chevy Impala.  Tharp says they recovered that car in Colorado.

"Once I got back here I dispatched two of my investigators back out there with a vehicle trailer.  They returned with all the evidence and the vehicle," Tharp said.

Tharp says while in Colorado they also interviewed several witnesses along with Schallert and Ferris.

The car and evidence collected will now go to the Illinois State Police Crime Scene technicians to be processed.

Tharp says Schallert and Ferris could be brought back to Franklin County as early as late this week.
