JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Jackson County families wake up Sunday morning to damaged mailboxes and automobiles.
"We were going to go to Saint Louis, and I came out here this morning and found a pumpkin thrown through the back window of our car," says Luke Fleisher.
So instead of going to Saint Louis as he had planned, Fleisher spent his Sunday afternoon sweeping up glass out of his driveway.
" I didn't hear anything. I went to bed around 11:30 p.m. and then I got up at 7:30 a.m. and the window was smashed out. I'm not really sure when it happened," Fleisher said.
Jackson County deputies are now investigating the rash of vandalism along Cedar Creek Road on Halloween night.
Several mailboxes along the road were also damaged overnight.
"I think it's pretty awful. I think kids need to find better things to do. It's pretty sad, it's supposed to be a fun holiday," says Jen Kleist of Carbondale.
Now it's one that is going to cost the Fleisher family a bundle to recover from.
"This is more then just a late night of fun", said Fleisher. "It's going to cost a good chunk of money. Whoever did this needs to think about it, and hopefully they'd like to come forward and do the right thing."
If you have any information about this vandalism on Cedar Creek Road on Saturday night, you're asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at (618) 687-2177.
