Southeast, TRCC, MAC to partner to bring community college to Cape

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Three area colleges will join together in an unprecedented partnership between Southeast Missouri State University and the region's two community colleges.

Southeast President Dr. Ken Dobbins says late Tuesday afternoon his school will join forces with both Three Rivers Community College and Mineral Area College in the effort to bring a community college to Cape Girardeau.

Dr. Dobbins says he spent much of the morning meeting with both community college leaders in Cape Girardeau.

The three colleges are developing a curriculum, one the school presidents hope to present to the city's education coalition task force next week.

That group would then pitch the community college plan to the Missouri Board of Higher Education.

This new, three-school effort marks a change from earlier this fall when Southeast and Mineral Area had one plan and Three Rivers had another.

With a history of bad blood between Southeast and Three Rivers, Heartland News asked Dr. Dobbins if it was tough to get all three schools on the same page.

Dr. Dobbins says this new three-school agreement means Three Rivers will not move forward with plans to build a satellite campus in Jackson.
