Firefighters investigate three suspicious fires

SOUTHERN IL/SOUTHEAST MO (KFVS) -  Fire investigators across the Heartland are looking into three possible cases of arson in three towns this week.

Authorities in West Frankfort, Illinois investigate a possible arson at a vacant home.

The call came in at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday night.  Firefighters said when they got to the home at 1201 E. Clark Street smoke was pouring out of the basement windows.

When firefighters were able to get inside and put the fire out, they said it appeared someone started the fire in three different places--including inside a garbage can which raised suspicion among investigators.

That fire only caused smoke damage.

Another arson investigation is underway in Cape Girardeau.

Fire officials say the call came in Wednesday night about an apartment complex on south West end Boulevard.

Currently the fire is being investigated by the state fire marshal and the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Police tell Heartland News they do not believe the entire complex was targeted.

A Scott City, Missouri fire is now under investigation. The call came in around 12 p.m. on Friday at a house on the 700 block of second street east.

There is no word on a cause, but authorities say the home had been vacant for a while.
