CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) – Captain Mary Beth Griffin was greeted with plenty of hugs and kisses Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Airport. After the long journey from Iraq to Missouri, the Army pilot is looking forward to the comforts of home.
"Spend a lot of time with family, visit the spa, pamper myself after being in the dirt," said Griffin.
She’s spent plenty of time in the dirt and in the air. Captain Griffin flies Kiowa helicopters for the U.S. Army.
Her family says they're very proud of her bravery and service to her country.
"She said ‘I owe it to my country to fight for it for what they've done for me," said Griffin's Grandmother Barbara Tinsley.
Now, Griffin and her family are thankful to be together for two weeks of quality time, horseback riding, and Thanksgiving celebrations.
"It's like there is nothing greater, what so ever, than to see her home," Tinsley said.
"All you can really ask for is to have family and friends close by you," said Griffin.
