STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Imagine finding yourself trapped in your home every time you see two to three inches of rain.
Some folks near Puxico say that's the problem they've been facing for several years.
Patricia Wring's front yard floods anytime it rains more than a couple of inches.
"There was times you cannot get out. The water rushed completely over the road," Wring and her husband said.
They live off Highway T in Stoddard County. They say Winter Storm '09 clogged up a nearby ditch with tree branches and other debris, and that's what's causing all the flooding.
"I don't know who is responsible. I know Mother Nature did some of this damage but sometimes we have to go in and cleanup after Mother Nature," Patricia said.
The Wrings say they can't do it alone, so Patricia's husband, Louie, showed up at the Stoddard County Commission meeting Monday morning to talk about their concerns.
"I have a suggestion that might help us, to get an organization that would clean out ditches through the use of a tax fund," Louie Wring proposed.
"A drainage district can be formed," Commissioner Frank Sifford said. "It's a very lengthy process and expensive to process to do that. The problem in Puxico's been going on for years."
Commissioners also heard from other folks in the area who shared the Wrings' fears.
"Sounds to me like all we need is money. Manna from heaven, whatever you want to call it, we are in short supply. We'll come back to you, and tell you what direction to go from there," said Presiding Commissioner Greg Mathis as he wrapped up the meeting.
Back at her home, Patricia Wring says she just doesn't want to see floods in her front yard again.
"For two years we've been trying to get something done," she said.
County Commissioners agreed to get back with the 10 to 12 homeowners who are affected by the flooding soon.
In the meantime, Louie Wring says he plans on calling other agencies to see if they can help in any way.
