RALEIGH, IL (KFVS) - Some junior high students got out of the classroom Wednesday to learn a lesson about serving others and home improvement.
Since the school year started, seventh and eighth grade students at Unity Christian School in Energy have held various fundraisers in order to offer someone a "holiday home make-over".
The kids raised more than $5,000 for building supplies, plus local businesses donated furniture and appliances to help their cause.
Some parents and community members in the construction business are also donating their time to help out.
The students selected a disabled veteran who was in need of home repairs as the lucky recipient of their services.
"She's a very nice lady and I definitely believe she deserves this. I think it's great we can reach out and help her," said Unity Christian School eighth grader Andrew Baker.
The students had two days off of school to work on the house and will continue to work this weekend.
The big "reveal" will take place next Wednesday.
