CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - A 20-year-old Charleston man, who police say was shot multiple times, spent the weekend in the hospital.
"I thought he was dead when they said the helicopter had to airlift him. I was hysterical, lost my mind, I was just going crazy," Frances Robinson told Heartland News.
She described seeing her son, laid up in a hospital as agonizing.
She says Tourieuns Robinson was headed home when it happened, and she was shocked when he told her how it all began.
"Two guys approached him and told him they would like his shoes, hat and coat and he told them he wasn't going to give them. But when he saw the guns he thought he was going to give it to them, but then they shot him in the back and after he started running. They shot him again in the hip," she said.
A few blocks away from the scene of the shooting, Pastor Arthur Cassell spent Sunday talking to the youth in his church.
Cassell says the incident saddens him, and he wants parents in his community to teach their children - violence is never the answer.
"I think what is the mindset that could lead someone to shoot someone over something so trivial," he said shaking his head.
As for Frances Robinson, she says she wants justice for her son, and she's hopeful police track down who ever is responsible.
"I feel that if you want a coat a pair of shoes, you need to find a job and you can purchase plenty of coats and hats and shoes," she said.
Charleston Police say the investigation continues. They ask anyone with information to call (573) 683-3737.
