LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky state House Republicans are vowing to oppose federal health care reform, bidding to push through a constitutional amendment that says no one is forced to join a health care system. The Republicans also say they'll seek to repeal the state's Medicaid expansion if they win control of their chamber.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A new initiative to treat hemlock trees for devastating insect pests and restore shortleaf pine forests on the Cumberland Plateau is being launched. International Paper and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation recently announced $743,000 in funding to improve forests on the plateau in Kentucky and Tennessee.

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Workers are adding more cable barriers to the median along a 24-mile stretch of Interstate 24 in western Kentucky. Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear says the barriers will prevent vehicles from turning onto the wrong side of the highway and causing crossover crashes.

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) - A company that makes protective covers for vehicles is expanding its operation in Henderson County. Gov. Steve Beshear's office says Budge Industries expects to create up to 37 new jobs and invest $650,000 into the project.
