(AP) - Vanderbilt and LSU are the favorites to win this week's Southeastern Conference tournament after mowing through regular-season play with uncommon ease. The real intrigue, however, is the new single-elimination format in the opening round of the tournament. Instead of the usual double-elimination format, the league's coaches say the sudden-death round was done because of scheduling and the expansion of the tournament field from 10 to 12 teams.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - National champions Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Bria Hartley headline the U.S. women's basketball team that will compete in July at the World University Games. The two UConn stars were among the 12 chosen to play in Kazan, Russia, from July 8-15.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Belmont has found its new women's basketball coach in Cameron Newbauer, who reached the NCAA championship game this past season as an assistant at Louisville. Newbauer was introduced as Belmont's new coach on Monday. Newbauer replaces Brittney Ezell, who took over East Tennessee State's program earlier this month.
