(Cape Girardeau, MO)--Our new health series on Heartland families "Growing Together " goes one step further in the growing process, with a family busy raising three grade school children. The Hagedorns have a full house, one that gets more hectic as the kids get older.

"I thought when I had three little babies, two in diapers, I thought I will never make it through this," Kim Hagedorn says. But Kim did make it through. Mark, her oldest child, is 11 now. Megan's nine and Blake's seven. Diapers aren't an issue anymore, getting everyone to where they need to be is the big deal now. Kim says, "Some nights I get home, 45 minutes later I'm back out picking someone up." "I play basketball, soccer, baseball, and I play drums," Mark says. "I like to do basketball and gymnastics," Megan says. Blake's just started playing soccer and baseball. Getting all three to their after-school activities is just the beginning. There's also homework, not to mention getting dinner ready.

Believe it or not, we caught up with the Hagedorns on a slow night. Kim works two jobs, she's a school nurse and picks up shifts at a hospital. The reason her husband Rick isn't there, he's not home from work yet. It's a lot to keep in order. Kim says they set priorities. "I want them to be involved and stay active but I also want to make sure families first." Sometimes that means slowing down, just a little. "There are times when we just say no, we're not going to go there or go there," Kim says. Everyone including the kids, welcomes the down time and spending time together, as a family. "It gets to be tough sometimes and you get a little stressed, so you stay at home and just sit back and watch television," Kim says. "I think the kids appreciate being able to relax and watch television and enjoy themselves, too".
