House passes health care bill

History in the House Saturday evening. After a long day of debate, Democratic lawmakers and one Republican passed a landmark health care reform bill. Still, the legislation must pass the senate, but the plan is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The bill passed after hours of tense debate.

The bill would require individuals to have insurance, and all but the smallest employers to offer health coverage to workers. It also includes a controversial government-run public option. All 177 house republicans voted against the bill. Leading up to the vote, GOP lawmakers and hundreds of conservatives rallied outside the capitol to voice their opposition.

Now it's on to the Senate, where another fierce battle is expected.
