CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS) - Makers of the Big Top Cupcake pan promise to enlarge your cupcakes by 25 times the normal size, but is it full of big promises it can't keep?

This definitely caught the attention of second graders in Mrs. Debbie Lands' class. They emailed me about testing this product. With the kids' help, we mix together the cake batter, then pour it into the lightly-greased silicone Big Top Cupcake pans. We also put the special lid on the bottom pan. It has an indention that will form a place for filling to go after baking. Speaking of that, our oven's preheating. Note: this is the school's convection oven, so we've lowered the temperature a bit to modify. After a few minutes, our Big Top Cupcake is looking like a big failure.

It's bulging. Don't peek in on the batter under the lid. It's hard to get the lid back into place while it's so hot. That means, we have a lopsided cake. Oh well, I bet these kids will still eat it!

"Oh my!" Mrs. Lands said after seeing the end result. This cake is lopsided!

We press on. Mrs. Lands and I take our creation to the big freezer. The directions say this will speed up the cooling process. After all, we have some anxious icers! First though, to my and Mrs. Lands' surprise, the directions say you can "shave" your cake off to make sure it'll fit. So, we level things off here, and we're ready to ice. The kids love decorating this humongous treat.

"The fact that we could cut it made it a lot easier to ice now that it's level and actually forms a cupcake," said Mrs. Lands.

Do let your cupcake completely cool, otherwise the massive treat will fall apart like ours did, but it's no big deal because the kids love eating it anyways! In fact, it probably made the treat more fun. The Big Top Cupcake's now a big mess. It doesn't matter though.

"It's very, very good!" said one student.

"It tasted like a normal cupcake," said one student.

"A!" cheer the students.

"An A!"

"Probably a B+ or A- but maybe an A minus because the kids love it so much!" said Mrs. Lands.

Before I hand out a coveted grade 'A,' I had Mrs. Lands bake another cupcake in her own regular oven at home, just to see if that made a difference in lopsidedness....and it did!

"The taste was really good. The price is good because you can re-use it," she said.

At $20, the Big Top Cupcake gets big praise, earning an A-minus on this Does it Work test.
