Lauren Keith names the Mr. Steamy one of the worst Does it Work products of 2010.

(KFVS) - Mr. Steamy has quickly become one of the most requested items of 2010 among our viewers.  Dozens of you want to know: can Mr. Steamy put an end to ironing? Lauren heads to the laundromat to find out.

According to the ad, the spiked ball of the Mr. Steamy releases steam in the dryer and clothes come out looking like they've been pressed by hand.

"Yeah right," Lauren said. "But I'm hopeful. I hate ironing."

First, pour a capful of the special liquid called Sure Shot. Pour two capfuls for heavy odor removal. It says on the Sure Shot container, "never buy fabric softener or dryer sheets again."

"This really looks like fabric softener to me," Lauren said, "but we'll see."

Next, wet the foam inside the Mr. Steamy ball and toss it into the dryer.

In one dryer, Lauren has two pairs of her husband's wet dress pants, but Mr. Steamy also promises to steam the wrinkles out of dry clothing too.

"Here," she said. "I have your traditional cotton dress shirts, a satin tank, and a cotton-lycra blend turtleneck. So, lots of fabrics for our dry clothing test."

In just 15 minutes, the directions say you might see your first results on the dry clothes at least.

Lauren says there was a little spot that felt sticky after only 15 minutes.

"Right now it appears Mr. Steamy isn't just letting out water droplets, but also the Sure Shot liquid," she said.

She added more quarters and more time for the shirts and checked on the pants.

"Those are still very wrinkly," she said. "And look, more spots. They'd better come out or I'll be in trouble."

The directions say 15 to 30 minutes for dry clothes.  After 30 minutes Lauren says the tanks are a tad better but still in need of pressing.

"I feel like there are even more wrinkles in this," Lauren said. "Either way, there's no way I could wear that under a suit or even on TV.  It would definitely have to be ironed.  Looks like I'll be re-washing the spotted clothing, ironing and failing this product."

Lauren says to be fair she had some of her friends try the Mr. Steamy in their laundry.

"Nobody liked this product," she said, "not even for towels and sheets.  One even said Mr. Steamy created more static cling."

She says the Mr. Steamy is not worth the $29.

"I'm tossing Mister Steamy into the trash, not the dryer, on this does it work test," she said.
