The Simoniz Fix-it Pro Clear Coat Pen has been deemed the worst product of 2010 out of all the Does it Work products tested this year.

ALTENBURG, MO (KFVS) -Joe Dreyer admits it's hard to keep his white pick-up truck scratch-free. He takes it out on fire calls for the Frohna-Altenburg department. So, if he can fix the scratches for only ten bucks, this firefighter would be a much happier man. Simply roll on the clear coat pen to any scratch, cure in the sun for a few days, and your vehicle is good as new, so the makers say.

First, directions on the Simoniz Clear Coat Scratch Repair kit say you need the following: a place in the shade above 55 degrees. We're in the garage, so this should work, in theory.Once we apply the clear coat pen to the scratches, we'll move  Joe's truck out into the sunlight to cure for the next few days. It's UV-activated, by the way.

"There's a deep scratch there. I would heavily coat the deep scratch."

The directions also recommend you work quickly, being careful to wipe off any excess clear coat.

"I think it'll work. You can tell it's filling in, but that deeper scratch might be questionable."

"See that one just disappeared. This one here, I coated it twice and it's starting to let up already," notes Joe.

Time will tell. The sun did come out and Joe let this truck dry and cure for three days before I checked back with him for the results.

I wish we had better news for him.

"I wouldn't buy it," he said.

Me neither. It's still tacky on the deepest scratches where Joe applied more than one coat. As the truck dried, dust and dirt settled into other wet places! Remember, he did wipe away the excess and still got this goopy mess.

"I think you need more sun than it says."

He thinks you might even want to do put a high-voltage heat lamp directly on the scratches IF you try this at home. Meantime, Joe says there's no way he'd try this on a darker colored-vehicle, given what it did to white paint.

"I'd probably give it an 'F'."

Me, too. We followed the directions and ended up with this unsatisfactory condition. By the way, I had a funny feeling this might happen. You may remember two years ago, the regular Simoniz Fixit didn't fix anything. It was supposed to repair big-time scratches anywhere on your car, and it didn't.

Meantime, this $10 job just got more expensive. Simoniz Fixit Pro Clear Coat Scratch repair kit leaves us scratching our heads.

This Simoniz product fails this Does it Work test ... again.
