JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Jackson seniors met with Representative Jo Ann Emerson Monday to discuss how the new health care bill will affect them.
Emerson says she plans on meeting with as many seniors as she can because sometimes they're not getting the right information.
She voted against the new health care bill four different times and says she feels it is her responsibility to explain the bill and answer any questions people may have.
"We've done about three meetings so far, since I've been home," Emerson said. "Most people I've spoken to are very unhappy with the healthcare bill and worried about the cost."
Emerson says seniors are important because, with the new bill, $500 billion will be cut from Medicare to pay for the extra people brought into the healthcare market.
While no one really knows what the cost will be at the end of the day, Emerson says young people will be paying more for insurance than they have been because most of them don't see the need to get it.
Emerson says she has people in her office just to learn the details of the bill so that they can better answer any questions people might have. She says when the lawyers and regulators start writing the rules to implement the bill, then they'll know even more.
