Revving Up Your Resolutions By: Wendy Ray
At the beginning of the year, many of us make New Year's resolutions to get healthier.
But a few months later, some of us are guilty of calling it quits. It's never too late to rev up your resolutions. Just a few adjustments to your resolutions, could get you back on the right path to a healthier lifestyle.
Jennifer McComas is determined to keep her New Year's resolution. "Generally exercise and fitness. In the fall and Winter you tend to slack off," she says. McComas says the warm weather gets her motivated. But for some people keeping their resolutions to get healthy doesn't last that long. Rita Berry is a personal trainer. She says, "People may sign up for two or three months then they stop," she says. Berry also says around this time every year, some people drop out of the gym. Many times, it's because they set unrealistic goals in the beginning. "Instead of making small goals they claim maybe, I'm going to lose 50 pounds fast, but it takes time," Berry says.
The biggest mistake, looking at resolutions as something that will probably be broken instead of a goal they want to achieve. "Each little step you take replace that with a small goal, reach that goal, and then make another goal and try to reach that," Berry says. It's never too late to rev up your resolutions. Here are some tips. Reassess your goals. Take small steps, instead of bigger ones that will be harder to achieve. Take it outside. Now that the weather's warmer, a walk or run outside could help you drop the pounds. And take it slow. Don't over do it, or you may get burned out quickly.
Berry says that trying to lose one to two pounds a week is a realistic goal to set. If you crash diet and lose a lot of weight at once, you're more likely to gain it back.
