Great Outdoors -- Windex Outdoor Glass & Surface Cleaner
By: Amy Jacquin

How'd you like to wash those second-story windowns without a ladder? It's possible, if  Windex Outoor lives up to its claim.

A $5 bottle of Windex Outdoors is a concentrated cleaner that hooks onto your hose. It says you can clean second-story widows without scrubbing.

"It sprays through screens," Amy Jacquin reads the directions. "It doesn't harm plants or siding or plastic."

A nozzle allows you to control when you spray clean water, or soapy water. But as soon as Amy turns it on, a leak sprays from under that nozzle in the handle.

She tries turning down the water pressure, but the leak continues to spray every which way.

Directions say to rinse the window first. Then Amy turns the knob to "clean"... and soap starts sudsing-up the glass. She lets this soak for 15 seconds, before rinsing thoroughly.

"It has plenty of power, to get up pretty high," Amy comments, while spraying toward the roof.

She washes a half-dozen windows, to give Windex Outdoors a true test.

"And it's supposed to have sheeting action, so it dries without needing to be squeegeed off," she says, but shrugs her shoulders as she looks at water droplets left behind.

The soap that gushes onto the ground is not supposed to harm greenery. But Amy gets a little aggravated, because it continues leaking all over the place. As the windows dry, she sees some improvement... but the windows definitely aren't as clean as if you hand-washed them.

"You can see a perfect imprint of a leaf that stuck to the outside of the window," Amy points out. "Obviously it didn't do anything to take that off. And further back, you can see what looks like bird dirt and other types of outdoor dirt, that Windex Outdoor didn't clean. But we didn't scrub by hand, which it says you can do. But if you're going to scrub by hand, why not start by hand to begin with?"

You're not completely wasting your money with this $5 product. But you're not getting a bargain either. Windex Outdoor does a very *average* job... and Amy gives it a C.
