But in a world where we encase our cell phones, our sunglasses - we even sell cases to cover our suitcases - do we really need cap covers for our high heels?

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO  (KFVS)- Question: Do you ever stop and take the time to clean your actual dishwashing machine? Take a close look inside your machine and decide if you might need the new Finish Dishwasher Cleaner. Tester Connie Clark said yes, she needs something like this so-called rejuvenating product.

"The dishwasher is 17 years old, so I'm sure it could use something like this."

Connie normally cleans her dishwasher with a damp cloth and bleach, but with the new Finish cleaner, all you have to do is plop it in. Sure, dishwasher cleaners have been around for awhile, but Finish says this one is new, offers intensive clean and care, and there's no wiping involved. We'll see. In fact, two tests this week have us getting down and dirty.

First, we have Connie's home that's on city water she treats with a softener and on her 17-year old machine. Second, my home out in the county with hard-water from a well. You can see the residue that type of water leaves behind in my machine that's only six years old. Plus, even with a rinse agent I add in to the detergent, I usually always have glasses with spots.

Here we go. Rip off the sticker,  plop it in upside down, but before you turn on the machine, the directions say to run your tap until the water is piping hot to ensure your machine runs on the highest temp possible.

My machine's on, and Connie has high expectations for the Finish cleaner.

"I'd like it to clean the stains in the bottom and maybe make the chrome shiny. Take some of the film off the door."

After full wash cycles, we have sparkling results. The Finish product really lifted the hard water stains on my machine. Plus, my dishwasher door is sparkling! I have no doubt a second application might improve things even more. Finish recommends the second application especially  for machines like mine with hard water. I can also tell you after I washed dishes in this newly cleaned machine, I was thoroughly impressed with the sparkling left behind.

Now to Connie's...

"It does look cleaner and it has more of a sparkle. You have to remember this is 17 years old. It does look cleaner. It did a good job, I think."

For only $3, both Connie and I think it offers good results and easier cleaning.

"This is much easier than what I did in the past: bleach and rag and down on your knees scrubbing."

So, at least two of us will use this once a month, as recommended.

"I'd give it an 'A'. I'm very satisfied."

Me, too. Finish dishwasher cleaner definitely doesn't finish last. It earns a sparkling 'A' and closes the door on this Does it Work test.

I bought it at Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau.
