SIKESTON (KFVS) - The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo is in full swing from August 11-14. On Saturday, the rodeo will be in full pink! That's the Jaycee's 'Tough Enough to Wear Pink' campaign night. The Jaycee's have raised more than $70,000 for Southeast Missouri cancer patients. At this years rodeo they're celebrating five years of helping out a great cause.

Rodeo board director Jason Pounds says it's something the Jaycee's are glad to do for breast cancer awareness.

"I've had it touch my life with my mother," Pounds said. "It's almost impossible to find someone who hasn't been touched by breast cancer."

It's something Marcie Lawson with the Sikeston area American Cancer Society says the local organization couldn't do without.

"What the Jaycee's do for the local [American] Cancer Society is absolutely amazing," Lawson said. "Free wigs, turbans, breast prosthesis, mastectomy bras alone bring so many smiles to patients when they don't have a lot to smile about."

While the focus of the campaign is to help breast cancer patients, money raised from 'Tough Enough to Wear Pink' night also helps other cancer patients. Lawson tells a story of a man who would have had to walk from a hotel in Miner to a cancer treatment facility in Sikeston every week to receive his treatment. Lawson got in touch with the Jaycees to arrange for a cab to take the man to his treatment free of charge every day. It's stories like that, that keep the Jaycee's giving every year.

One dollar of every ticket sale to Saturdays events goes to the 'Tough Enough to Wear Pink' campaign. There will also be raffles including a pink guitar signed by all of this years music acts given away.
