Postal workers protest proposal to cut Saturday mail

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Who wouldn't like an extra day off work each week?

Apparently a group of postal workers in Cape Girardeau would not.  They organized a picket Monday to protest a plan to eliminate Saturday mail delivery.

The post office has asked Congress for permission to do away with Saturday mail.

The president of the union says this is the third time the postal service has tried to do this.

Workers say no Saturday mail would hurt both the post office and the people they deliver to.

Postal officials say Saturday mail should be cut because the post office has much less mail to deliver in this age of electronic communication; and because of an expected $238 billion shortfall over the next decade.
