Vigil held one year after Cape Girardeau triple murder

By Holly Brantley - email

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - It has been one year since a triple murder shocked a Cape Girardeau neighborhood and devastated a family.

Family members and friends pause to remember Jamie Orman, her son Derrick, and also her unborn child.

They held a candle light vigil in the Perryville City Park.

"It's our way of celebrating their life," said Bruce Orman, Derrick Orman's dad.

"I can't put it into words," said Terry Bettis, Jamie Orman's mother. "I'm still numb."

It was on an early morning just before Halloween one year ago when family and friends learned their loved ones had been shot and killed as part of what prosecutors have called a twisted murder plot.

Prosecutors say Michelle Lawrence was plotting to kill her estranged husband John.  Another suspect, Ryan Patterson, was supposed to pull the trigger all while Samuel "Ray Ray" Hughes allegedly kept watch.

That's not what happened and three innocent victims died in cold blood.

All three of those suspects await trial.

"One day we will see justice," said Kelly Yates, Jamie Orman's sister. "It may take five or ten years but we will see justice served."

"I'd like to see the death penalty on all of them," said Bruce Orman.

"They took them from us out of greed and selfishness," said Stephanie Howard, Jamie Orman's sister.

"She is my baby," said Terry Bettis. "You can take her in body, but you can't take her spirit."
