(KFVS) -Heartland News wrapped up Toy testers 2010 and now it's time for KFVS and our corporate sponsors to play "Santa".

As part of tradition, KFVS donated the toys.  First, Toy Testers producers Lauren Keith and Stephanie Byars took the toys boys and girls enjoyed playing with to Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau.  There, counselors say the children who come into the shelter with their mothers can play with the toys.  Last year alone, Cape County reported 2500 domestic violence cases, with most of the victims finding some sort of shelter at Safe House.

Next, KFVS took more than $500 worth of educational toys from Leap Frog and VTech to the Cape Girardeau County Head Start.  The Head Start instructor says donations like these provide the children with great learning opportunities, and the Safe House counselors say it aids in their outreach to kids.

Mindy Sanders with Safe House for Women says, "The toys will allow the kids to warm up to us and let us help them know everything is going to be ok. They can play with them while Mom is in counseling, and we can say it's all going to be ok. You'll be back on your feet again."

Barbara Duncan, an instructor with Cape Co. Head Start said: "Donations like the ones you brought are so helpful and truly make learning an adventure for them."

Meantime, Safe House for Women is in need of monetary donations as well as items for their thrift store. For more information, you can contact them at 573-335-7745.  You may also visit their web site www.semosafehouse.org
