JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) - Leaders from the Missouri General Assembly joined Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder on Thursday, Feb. 4, requesting for a legal opinion on the enforceability of the federal health care reform law.

"The great state of Missouri and all our citizens are waiting on you, the attorney for our State, to let us know where we stand on this crucial issue," said Kinder, Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer and House Speaker Steven Tilley in a letter to Mo. Attorney General Chris Koster.

The letter asks Koster to consider his response in light of Missouri's Health Care Freedom Act, a measure passed by voters in the state's 2010 primary.

This act challenges federal reform efforts, and a recent decision by a federal judge in Florida declared aspects of the reform unconstitutional and the response of some states to suspend enforcement of the federal law.
