CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - You may want to think twice when you pour your kids a bowl of Fruit Loops or Captain Crunch.  According to a new study, children could be swayed to eat a healthy cereal if they like the characters on the boxes.  Researchers had 80 kids between the ages of 4 and 6 taste dry cereal and then rate it.  They found kids who saw a popular media character on the box rated it higher than the same cereal without a character on the box.

The name of the cereal also contributed to a child's opinion, but not in a surprising way.  The children rated a cereal called, Healthy Bits higher than a cereal called, Sugar Bits.  The researchers suggest children are commonly told sugary foods are bad, so they may have been avoiding Sugar Bits because of the negative association.
