LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - After a 1-year-old girl was shot and killed in Louisville, family members and community activists are calling for an end to violence. Police say someone killed the child on Wednesday and wounded her mother outside their home in Louisville's west end.

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky officials have suspended the license of a Knoxville, Tennessee, doctor practicing at Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Board of Medical Licensure documents say emergency room doctor Donald Ramsey was prescribing diet pills to nursing staff, and they allegedly used them to stay alert at night. Ramsey told the board he believed the nurses were legitimate candidates for the drug.

JACKSON, Ky. (AP) - State police have charged an eastern Kentucky man who was behind the wheel in a deadly crash with three counts of murder, two counts of assault and driving under the influence. Media cited Kentucky State Police in reporting the charges against 19-year-old Shawn Hardin of Jackson.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State mine safety officials have cited an eastern Kentucky man for illegally mining coal in Letcher County. Bryan Lee Wagner has been charged with mining without a permit and mining without a license. Civil penalties range from $5,000 up to $25,000 per day.
