CINCINNATI (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer that kept Alfredo Simon winless since the All-Star game, and the Arizona Diamondbacks held on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 Wednesday, taking a series between two teams struggling to score runs. Goldschmidt's 19th homer off Simon gave the Diamondbacks two of three in the series.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Bengals cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris was suspended for two games Wednesday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Lewis-Harris can participate in preseason games and practices. He'll miss the first two games without pay and can return to the active roster on Monday, Sept. 15.

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Wake Up Nick won the $100,000 Graduation Stakes for 2-year-olds by 4 1/4 lengths at Del Mar on Wednesday. Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Wake Up Nick ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.49 and paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. He improved to 3-0 for trainer Doug O'Neill.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Quarterback battles and signal-caller questions abound in the Southeastern Conference going into preseason camps. The turnover at football's most important position has been so significant that division favorites Alabama and South Carolina will be banking on new starters. Ditto for Texas A&M, Georgia and defending East Division champion Missouri.
