Tom Sweeten from Mount Vernon, Illinois:
"(Regarding Mike Smythe's ViewPoint on Vietnam) I was one of the active soldiers during those days. I was drafted in 1967 and discharged in 1968. When a group of us were returning from Southeast Asia and (transferred planes in Seattle) the civilian flight was delayed for 30 minutes waiting on us. When we entered the plane's cabin every passenger stood and applauded us…no spitting, cursing, no disrespect…43 years later I still get chill bumps while typing this and reflect on what a great nation we enjoy. I am sure that others had a different experience but I received nothing but a ‘Welcome Home'!"
Delbert Hendrix from East Prairie, Missouri:
"I registered for the draft in 1973. I was in the lottery system and had just turned 18. I still have my old draft card and it wasn't long after that President Nixon stopped the draft…we lost that war and I think about the ones we are in now. It looks to me that (these wars) are going to be the same in lives and money."
Jeniese Fox from Southeast Missouri:
"I love the (promotional spots) that use the members of the news team advertising local events. They are fun and refreshing. Keep them coming."
