BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Josh Johns have been suspended indefinitely from the LSU football team after warrants for their arrests were issued by police Friday morning.

Jefferson and Johns turned themselves into police and were both booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Jefferson and Johns each face a felony charge of second-degree battery.

A second-degree battery charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine up to $2,000.

Attorney Nathan Fisher said the pair each posted a $5,000 bond on the charge.

"Jordan and Josh have been suspended indefinitely," Miles said. "We will continue to cooperate with the authorities in an effort to find out exactly what took place during the incident.

Miles said no timetable has been set on the suspension.

"As sad as this incident is, it's important that we learn from this and that we take away a valuable lesson. This has weighed on all of us. It's time for us to come together as a team and focus on what we are here to do."

Police have scheduled a 2:30 p.m. news conference to announce the arrests. The conference will be broadcast LIVE on WAFB and online.

Jefferson and Johns are two of four LSU football players implicated in a fight outside a bar near campus. The other two players questioned by police, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and offensive tackle Chris Davenport, have not been charged.

A woman who claims to have witnessed the fight told police she saw Jefferson kick a man in his face during the fight, according to an initial police report released Thursday.

The report by the Baton Rouge Police Department stated officers responded to a 911 call about a fight in progress outside Shady's Bar on E. Boyd Drive in Baton Rouge around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 19.

In the report, the responding officer said no one was fighting when he arrived, but there was a crowd of people standing outside the bar.

No. 4 LSU faces No. 3 in Arlington, TX on Sept. 3.
