For as long as Jaime can remember, she's wanted to be a weather girl. Now after six long years of going through classes and earning degrees, she's proud to call herself a meteorologist. Her interest in weather stemmed from a story her dad told about how his childhood home was destroyed by the 1967 F4 tornado that ripped through the suburbs of St. Louis. This story always frightened Jaime and made her question "why weather happens". Now that Jaime has grown up, she understands the where, the when, and the why tornadoes occur, and she eagerly wants to share this knowledge with the public while informing them of tomorrow's weather.
Jaime received highest honors and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Atmospheric Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Georgia Tech, Jaime had the opportunity to be a student volunteer at the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, Georgia and participate in a field experiment on a small barrier island near Savannah, Georgia. After graduating, Jaime worked as a field scientist for the Department of Natural Resources in the Air Protection Branch.
After a year in the real world, Jaime decided to go back to school at Saint Louis University to earn her Master of Science degree where her thesis research examined atmospheric environments similar to the catastrophic flooding event of May 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. Her research was motivated by the simple fact, "flooding is the number one cause of weather related deaths, and being able to accurately forecast and communicate the risks to the general public is crucial." Learning to examine the subtleties associated with heavy precipitation events made Jaime a better forecaster and, consequently, a better broadcast meteorologist. During her time at Saint Louis University, she collaborated with the National Weather Service office in Springfield, Missouri and her research results helped to design and implement warm-season analog guidance that is used by National Weather Service offices across the country. Jaime is currently working on publishing her research in professional meteorological journals.
Although Jaime interned at KTVI Fox2 in St. Louis, KFVS12 is her first station as a full-time broadcast meteorologist and she is very excited to grow as both a broadcaster and forecaster with the Heartland StormTeam. In Jaime's free time, she enjoys dance, Bikram yoga, and outdoor activities while rooting for Cardinal's baseball in the summer and watching college football in the fall. At home, Jaime enjoys cooking and a quiet evening catching up on recorded television shows with her dog, Amber.
