CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Investigators spent time in the rain along Interstate 55 Thursday afternoon searching, they say for possible clues in the disappearance of missing mom Jacque Waller.

Heartland News received several phone calls about patrol cars stopped Thursday afternoon along I-55 southbound near the Fruitland exit in Cape Girardeau County.

According to Jackson Police Chief James Humphreys, officers using rakes searched for any of Waller's personal items in a recently mowed ditch.

Lt. David James with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office says they found some items associated with the Waller case in that area.  They are conducting line searches and flagging any personal items found, whether they may or may not be Jacque Waller's items.  Police will be there as long as it takes.

Firefighters are searching a small creek in the area for any evidence that could be related to the case.

Humphreys stressed they are searching areas they couldn't get to back in the summer due to high grass.

James says the area was covered in about six to eight feet of briars and impossible to get into.

Searchers officially wrapped up for the night at 5:30 p.m., according to Lt. David James.

He said authorities brought out lights so the area will remain lit and guarded overnight, with one lane blocked to traffic near mile marker 104.

They will be back out searching at 8 Friday morning.

Jacque Waller went missing June 1. Her disabled SUV was found on the northbound shoulder of I-55 near the Fruitland exit.

Prosecutors call her estranged husband Clay Waller a suspect in her disappearance. He remains behind bars on unrelated federal charges.
