Paducah postal employees picket possible changes

Posted: Updated:
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

Postal employees in Paducah spent some time on the picket line today, protesting the possible consolidation of the processing and distribution center there.

As we've told you, the US Postal Service recently announced it will slow delivery and, for the first time in 40-years, eliminate the chance for stamped letters to arrive the next day.

Employees say they're afraid the recent decision will mean a dip in customer service.

For two-hundred and thirty-six years we have kept and proven service," said Gerl McKinney, USPS employee. "Everything we have done is to make the mail faster. But the downgrade in service, my personal opinion, is the postal service can't survive this."

The distribution centers in Paducah, Carbondale, and Cape Girardeau could all be closed early next year. The postal service has not made an official announcement on which facilities will shut down.
