Watch for YourTurn normally scheduled to air at the end of Heartland News at Noon on Mondays and Fridays, at the end of Heartland News at 10:00 on Saturday nights, and following The Breakfast Show on Sunday mornings.
We hear from Amy in Kelso this week who writes in to YourTurn concerned with trash and litter here in the Heartland:
"I am not from this area originally, but I have lived here for 15+ years. I have always had a heart for seeing trash on the side of the road. It's just so wrong to me. I can't help noticing all the trash on the interstate from Scott City to Cape and Jackson. It saddens me everyday I have to drive that route. I travel to other states and do not see this kind of neglect and disgust. I feel horrible for all the people that are not from here and have to drive through. What they must think of our area. The first impression is not that good. I would like to see efforts made by the local police department to enforce the state laws. Also, I would like to see signs posted reminding these people that throw trash out their vehicles that it is illegal! And, I would like to see people picking it up. This is the biggest heartland eyesore of all to me because everyone that comes here has to see it. I am embarrassed. I see other states going through great effort to make their cities look beautiful and clean, especially their interstate highways. There is a sense of pride that makes you feel good when you drive through. We do not have that. Please help me with this."
Amy, we agree with you. And folks, her request isn't hard to respond to. Make it a priority to keep your trash in the car until you get somewhere with a suitable trash receptacle. Keeping our Heartland clean is good for all of us.
