Last Friday I was blessed to be at the groundbreaking for Melaina's Magical Playland at North Cape County Park. Being new to the area, I was not aware of Melaina's story, and the story of those who have dedicated their time, labor, love, and support to this project. It is a heartbreaking story, with a beautiful legacy.
The Heartland is home to many who have a member of their family with special needs. Special needs children have a hard enough time in this world and it is refreshing to know that there will be a place right here in our backyard where these kids and their families can cut loose and just worry about having fun with other kids. When it is complete, Melaina's Magical Playland will be an oasis of laughter, a spring where the spirit will be refreshed for all children and their families, regardless of their needs. That's pretty neat.
The groundbreaking showcased a wonderful site for the project, and the construction is underway. But the need for additional funding still exists. If you would like to learn more about this project, go to magicalplayland.org and find out how you can add your support. You'll be glad you did.
