All East Texas counties under Tornado Watch until 10 p.m.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The tornado threat is increasing across East Texas this afternoon into the evening hours.

A boundary left over from yesterday's storms is draped across the I-20 corridor this afternoon and this is adding to the low level spin in the atmosphere available for thunderstorms.  As thunderstorms encounter this enhanced area of spin, tornadoes will be possible in addition to large hail and gusty winds.

The thunderstorms will be developing where winds at the surface from the southeast rapidly change to southwest as the storm builds through the atmosphere. This will provide enough shear for storms to rotate making them capable of producing very large hail, over 2 inches in diameter, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes.

In addition to the severe weather threat, any storm will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall. This will aggravate the wind damage threat from falling trees thanks to the loose soil, much like what we saw yesterday. Stay with KLTV and KLTV.com for the latest weather information.

All East Texas counties are under a tornado watch, in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday night
