TISD school bus catches fire while transporting students

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler ISD administrators confirm a bus caught fire Tuesday afternoon while students were being taken home.

Officials say the bus driver noticed smoke coming from the hood and immediately evacuated the bus. The incident happened in the Azalea District near Sunnybrook.

A nearby bus was called to pick up the children. All students should be home, or very close, says TISD spokesperson Laura Jackson.

Officials did not know the school bus number.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown, although it is believed to be electrical; an investigation is underway.

No one was injured in the fire.
