Eggners Ferry Bridge work update

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Additional work is being required to load the cranes for the move to the Eggners Ferry Bridge with a new span.

Transportation officials say contractors have to haul in about 600 to 700 tons of channel lining rock to stabilize existing material along the ramp in order to safely load the cranes.

The cranes will then be loaded on the barge for transport to the Eggners Ferry Bridge site with the replacement span.

Officials say it is expected to be Sunday morning before both cranes are loaded. They may still try to move the cranes and truss to the site Sunday afternoon.

According to Keith Todd, KYTC, the truss is expected to be set on Monday morning, rather than running the risk of running out of daylight Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, wooden supports required for concrete forms are being added to the steel span.
