MARSHALL-TRIGG COUNTY LINE, KY (KFVS) -

Crews continue to work reinforcing steel and completing electrical work on the Eggners Ferry Bridge.

Contractors recently placed a replacement span at the Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake.

The contractor is now continuing to reinforce steel and forms to allow a concrete deck to be poured on the 322 ft. structure.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet inspectors who monitor construction activities are saying they believe the new deck could be ready for concrete to be poured as early as Monday.  However, crews say if there are any number of issues, including weather, it could impact progress.

Also, electrical crews are working along the bridge to prepare for completion of the new span.  Required electrical work will include addition of conduit to the new portion of the structure.

Once a new deck is poured on the replacement span, KYTC inspectors say they will check the concrete to assure it is of proper strength.

The bridge that carries U.S. 68 and Ky. 80 between Land Between the Lakes and Aurora has been closed since a cargo ship tore down a 322-foot span on January 26.
