Olive Branch to discuss flood recovery

Posted: Updated:
OLIVE BRANCH, IL (KFVS) -

A couple of weeks ago, people from Olive Branch voted on five different plans on how to best rebuild their town after last year's massive flood.

Tonight, the results of that vote will be made public at a meeting at the highway department.

The public is invited to attend.

One idea involves potentially developing the community in a non-flood plain location.

Another issue is the FEMA buyout program.

A number of people want to know how much longer it will take to get the money.

Project manager Beth Ellison says FEMA will hand out the money, it's just a matter of time depending on paper work.

People have a couple of options if they're on the FEMA list.

They can participate in the buy out, meaning their land will belong to the county, and they can rebuild elsewhere.  They can physically move their house or they can raise their home to prevent future flood problems.
