DIEHLSTADT, MO (KFVS) -

The National Weather Service says an EF2 tornado caused the deaths of three men as it destroyed their mobile home in Diehlstadt.

Winds about 115 mph from the low end EF2 ripped through the mobile home around 8:45 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identifies the father and his two adult sons as Loy Miller, 70, Jasper Miller, 50, and Randy Miller, 48.

Trooper Clark Parrott doesn't know whether they were sleeping or trying to seek shelter in the home.

A neighbor who knew the men says, "It's a tough loss for the town. They were good men."

The damage around the mobile home indicates straight line winds, according to the NWS.

Power crews from Ameren Missouri and SEMO Electric worked on downed lines on Highway 77 going into Diehlstadt.

SEMO Electric and Ameren Missouri reported no outages as of Tuesday afternoon.

At one point, sheriff's deputies shut down the highway. Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said there were too many onlookers.

"They're just driving by and wanting to look at this, and right now these citizens here, they don't need this and they're just getting in the way. We've got all these emergency responders here, they was doing the search for the missing folks, we didn't need people just driving through getting in the way, so we just shut the highway down for right now," said Walter.

There is also a propane leak in the area, so officials are concerned about people lighting matches.

Leandra Vaughan was in CJ's Bar next to where the trailer was when the storm hit.

"We were just all sitting in the bar, and I got a warning on my phone saying that there was severe thunderstorms, and then horizontal rains came through, and then someone else came in saying they came across the radio with tornado warnings, and it never came across to my phone. My mom got underneath the bar, we were all just joking around, all our ears popped, and then everything was hitting the bar, it sounded like hail, and when it got done, when everything calmed down, we went outside and the guys were like there's supposed to be a trailer there," said Vaughan.

She said they didn't expect the storm to be so severe.

"We were all just joking around, the lights went out, we were all just joking around, and mom got under the barstool thinking tornado, she was like that's a tornado, and everybody's ears popped, we just didn't think anything of it, and when we looked outside, power lines were down, the signs at the bar were gone, and we didn't think it was that severe," said Vaughan.

The storm also knocked the steeple off the First Southern General Baptist Church.

A fund is being set up at First Security State Bank in Charleston under the name of Loy Miller.

The owner of CJ's Bar said they will have a fundraiser to also help out the family. She said she wants to work to get a tornado siren in the town as well.

Visitation for all three will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church.

McMikle Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
