EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, IL (KFVS) -

A Bloomfield, Mo. man died after a construction zone crash on route 146 in East Cape Girardeau Saturday, June 9 around 12:07 p.m.

According to Illinois State Police, the 29-year-old Robert L. Aslin drove his 1994 Saturn station wagon into the construction zone bypassing the barricades.

He then turned around and accelerated into a parked, unoccupied pavement roller.

Emergency crews did cut the top of the car off to get the man out, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by Alexander County Coroner Willie Bingham. No other injuries reported.

Witnesses say the crash moved the equipment four feet.

IDOT crews say this is the first crash on this stretch of road, which isn't even open to traffic.

Illinois state police are investigating.
