POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -
A Poplar Bluff teenager appeared in court Monday morning for charges in a late night shooting Friday.
Lonnie Moss, Jr. was charged with first degree assault for serious physical injury and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $100,000.
Moss' case is set for announcement.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. Friday in the area of Benton and North Main Streets.
According to Poplar Bluff Police, Moss, 17, of the 1800 block of Alice Street was charged with assault first degree and armed criminal action. He was taken to the Butler County Jail pending review by the Butler County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Police say they got the call of shots fired and searched the area. They were told a victim in the shooting had been taken from the scene by private vehicle to the emergency room.
Sammie Redmond, 36, of Bernie, Missouri told officers that during a drug deal, a young black male with a small build and dread locks showed a gun. As Redmond fled the scene, the black male fired three or four shots at him. Redmond was shot once in the arm.
Police say Redmond's injury was treated and he was released.
Just before midnight, Chief of Police Danny Whiteley found the suspect's vehicle on the parking lot at Casey's General Store on East Pine Street.
Police say Moss was in the vehicle and admitted that he shot Redmond because another man also involved in the drug deal told him to do so.
Experts say the officer who killed a Long Island college student and a home invasion suspect on Friday was confronted with a split-second choice.
The high school alma mater of the Hofstra University student accidentally killed by a police officer is discussing the shooting with its graduating seniors.
