Children in the Heartland are battling a new, rare disease.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
A Cape Girardeau police officer is in the hospital recovering after a motorcycle crash near Metropolis, Illinois this weekend.
Patrolman David Tucker suffered serious injuries when the back tire on his motorcycle blew on Interstate 24 on Saturday.
He was airlifted to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
As of Monday morning, Davis is very sore but up and talking to family. He says he has seven broken ribs, shoulder, collar bone, skull fracture and some internal injuries. He is still in Nashville and in stable condition. He will stay there for now.
According to Lt. Buddy Davis, who was traveling with Tucker when the accident happened, the patrolman has a skull fracture, broken shoulder, broken collar bone, and a collapsed lung.
He has reportedly been awake and in good spirits despite the pain.
Tucker's served as an officer in Cape Girardeau for nearly six years.

A fire in Oran destroyed a 2-story house on Tuesday morning. According to the Oran Fire Department, it happened at 4:05 a.m. at 907 highway W, which is right in the middle of town. Firefighters
