LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Summertime fun can be costly, but if you plan right, you can find that sometimes a small investment can deliver tons of dividends throughout the year. Louisville Zoo memberships carry a lot of extra benefits and might be right for you!
"It's really the best way to experience your zoo," said Kyle Shepherd, spokesperson for the Louisville Zoo. "You get unlimited free access during regular zoo hours through that year that you're a member. You also get discounts at our concession stands and gift shop!"
Louisville has one of the premiere zoos in the country and a single or family membership will almost pay for itself the first time you visit. Plus, no visit to the zoo is exactly the same.
"We've got the new 'Glacier Run' we just opened last April. It's our polar bear and grizzly bear exhibit with our seals and sea lions." said Shepherd.
The exhibit includes the much talked about polar bear cub, Qannik!
Sheperd explains "All the zoos in the country wanted Qannik and we got her, so we're real pleased with that!"
The Louisville Zoo has over 1,700 animals along with a botanical park plus the award winning 'Gorilla Forest' exhibit where you can see gorillas up close and personal. The zoo also offers over fifty annual special event days and special attractions like 'Dinosaurs', with twelve different animatronic dinosaurs from five continents.
If it gets a little too hot for you outside, you can go inside to cool off while watching a 4-D movie in their new 50 seat 4-D theater or cool off in the zoo's 'Calistoga' splash park.
Every membership at the Louisville Zoo comes with the privilege to visit other parks and aquariums at discount prices.
"There are about 125 zoos and aquariums that are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that offer a reciprocal membership benefit either of free admission or discounted admission," said Shepherd.
Zoo memberships run from $55 for a single membership all the way up to $208 for a family dual package which gives you unlimited access to not only the zoo but the Louisville Science Center as well!. For more information you can visit the Louisville Zoo's web site here.
