Main Street reopened, gas leak stopped in Cape Girardeau

Posted: Updated:
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Main Street is back open after a gas leak closed down the street and evacuated a building Monday morning in Cape Girardeau.

It happened on the west side of the 300 block of Main Street as a construction crew from Eastern Missouri Industries cut into an Ameren UE gas line.

This is next door to Old Hickory Pitts. That building was evacuated.

Ameren has stopped the leak.

Main Street was closed in both directions.

No one was injured.

Firefighters say the wind helped to blow the natural gas out of the area.
