MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Three people were injured in two crashes on Interstate 24 Wednesday night.

A pickup truck heavily loaded down with household items was hit by another pickup truck and scattered debris about a quarter mile along the westbound lanes, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.

After this crash, another crash happened in the eastbound lanes when a driver slowed to look at the crash in the other lanes.

It first happened around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes of I-24 at the 14 mile marker.

Branston York, 16, of Paducah was driving a 2001 Chevy Silverado when he rearended a slow moving 1981 Ford Courier pickup truck driving by Thomas San Roman, 64, of Edgar Springs, Mo.

Witnesses at the scene told sheriff's deputies they had seen the loaded pickup truck driving on the interstate at around 20-30 mph.

The truck was loaded with clothing, old computer equipment, canned food items and tools. The wreck spread debris about a quarter miles along both westbound lanes of traffic.

Deputies found the truck in the woods still heavily loaded with goods. Even though a large amount of items had been dislodged, it was still heavily loaded. San Roman and unresponsive and trapped in this truck due to numerous items in the cab with him. San Roman was taken to Lourdes Hospital.

York's truck was found in the median. York had only very minor injuries. He was treated and released from Lourdes Hospital.

About 45 minutes after the first crash, another crash happened directly across the first crash in the eastbound lanes.

Leo Carter, 71, of Kuttawa, Ky. was driving a 2000 model Chevy S-10 when he suddenly slowed in front of a 2012 Mack semi-tractor and trailer.

Douglas Pennington, 54, of Tullahoma, Tenn. told sheriff's deputies Carter had slowed to about 30 mph and he couldn't avoid rearending him.

Sheriff's deputies say Carter was looking at the crash in the westbound lanes. Carter was taken to Lourdes Hospital. Pennington was not injured.

A two mile stretch of the westbound lanes was closed for an hour and a half until the debris was cleared from one lane. Traffic westbound was then open to one lane for another hour and a half.
