DORENA, MO (KFVS) -

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry stopped service at 9 a.m. Saturday due to low water on the Mississippi River at Hickman.

Captain Ed Floyd says water at the mouth of the Hickman Harbor is about five to six feet deep at this time.  He says there needs to be seven feet of water to operate safely.

Captain Floyd says until there is sufficient rain to raise the river level about a foot the ferry will remain closed.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects KY 1354 at Hickman, Kentucky, with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Missouri.
